This large anchor on permanent display at Academy Field honors the tricentennial of town founders in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. A massive cast iron stockless anchor, it rests on the shoulder and crown aligned on a north-south axis. The shank extends upward at a 45-degree angle towards Narragansett Bay in the east.
A cast bronze plaque mounted to its truncated prism foundation reads:
1677 - 1977
DEDICATED TO
THOSE WHO INCORPORATED THE

ON OCTOBER 31, 1677
AND TO THOSE
WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO ITS PROGRSS
