At the top of the main thoroughfare of the former mining village of Dudley sits this art installation.
I can find no official information on this piece. In the centre of a slightly raised circle of bricks is a flat oblong shaped piece of metal with the shape of the sun sculpted into the top and bottom. The sheet is placed so the the top is pointing true north and the bottom true south. Etched into it are the positions of the sun throughout the year.
Around the top half of the circle the numbers of the top half of a clock face are placed round the outside of this circle.
This is enclosed by a large black fence interspersed with silhouette sculptures of images that represent the village and the surrounding area.
These images are of the outside of a mine, the wheel of a mill, a boat, a candle in a lantern, a horses head, a bus, footsteps (Which I think represents the miners march from Jarrow to Westminster), a steam train and a pigeon.
