During World War I, Lynæs Fort was built 50 meters from the coast.
The fort's task was to protect the minefields in the Isefjord's inlet and prevent enemy units from sailing into the Isefjord and Roskildefjord. It was taken into use in 1916 with 200 soldiers.
The fort is rectangular and surrounded by a mound and a moat. Access to the fort is from the south side where there is a bridge over the moat.
During World War II, the German army seized the cannons from the fort and moved them.
After World War II, the Armed Forces used Lynæs Fort as a training center.
The fort became privately owned in 1995 and for some years was used as a refugee center and later as a fitness center. It is still privately owned and it is not possible to enter the fort. There are trails all around the fort so you can see the moat and parts of the fort.
