L'académie d'Inverness est un édifice scolaire d'inspiration néo-italienne construit en 1889.
Le bâtiment en brique rouge de plan rectangulaire, à deux étages, est coiffé d'un toit en pavillon.
Sa façade comporte un avant-corps central précédé d'un porche en bois et surmonté d'un clocheton.
L'académie d'Inverness est située sur un terrain paysager planté d'arbres matures, en bordure du chemin Gosford Sud, dans la municipalité d'Inverness.
Ce bien est cité immeuble patrimonial et la protection s'applique à l'enveloppe extérieure de l'immeuble.
Elle est un témoin privilégié du réseau scolaire anglophone établi dans les Cantons-de-l'Est au XIXe siècle qui comporte des écoles primaires, des académies et même une université et de l'importance qu'attachait la population anglophone à l'éducation!
La région d'Inverness se distinguait alors par un taux de fréquentation scolaire plus élevé que le reste de l'actuel territoire du Québec au XIXe siècle.
Elle est située au 330 rue Gosford à Inverness.
La communauté anglophone locale étant de moins en moins nombreuse au XXe siècle, l'académie ferme finalement ses portes en 1966.
L'édifice accueille ensuite une loge des Orangistes à l'étage supérieur et la bibliothèque municipale au rez-de-chaussée.
Il est vendu à un particulier et devient une résidence privée. Une importante restauration est entreprise par le propriétaire en 2006.

Inverness Academy is a neo-Italian inspired school building built in 1889.
The rectangular, two-storey red brick building has a pavilion roof.
Its facade has a central avant-corps preceded by a wooden porch and surmounted by a steeple.
The Inverness Academy is located on landscaped grounds planted with mature trees, bordering Gosford Road South, in the Municipality of Inverness.
This property is listed as a heritage building and the protection applies to the exterior envelope of the building.
It is a privileged witness of the English-speaking school network established in the Eastern Townships in the 19th century, which includes elementary schools, academies and even a university and the importance that the English-speaking population attached to education!
The Inverness region was then distinguished by a higher school attendance rate than the rest of what is now Quebec in the 19th century.
It is located at 330 Gosford Street in Inverness.
With the local English-speaking community shrinking in the 20th century, the academy finally closed its doors in 1966.
The building then houses an Orangemen's lodge on the upper floor and the municipal library on the ground floor.
It is sold to an individual and becomes a private residence.
A major restoration is undertaken by the owner in 2006.
