Taken from Wikipedia, "The Columbus Monument is a 76-foot (23 m) column installed at the center of Manhattan's Columbus Circle in the U.S. state of New York. The monument was created by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo."
"At the center of the Circle is a seventy-seven foot granite column supporting a marble State of Columbus, completed by Gaetano Russo in 1894. Three bronze ship' probes, representing the ships in Columbu's fleet, ornament the shaft, and before the pedestal is the figure of a winged youth, studding a terrestrial globe." -- New York City, 1939
