1. Right from Petersham on New Salem Rd. into the Massachusetts Federation of Women's Clubs State Forest (hiking; picnicking facilities), 4.5 w., an area of 1000 acres presented to the Commonwealth by the Federation in 1933; about one sixth of the park is a bird sanctuary.

The road that cuts through the forest, ends up coming out on more traveled roads to get back on track, heading into Athol. Rode 3/4 of the thru to be greeted with with a bridge out sign and had to turn around, heading back MA-122. It was still a nice ride.
