English: In the Middle Ages, the small island of Galgeholm (Gallows Island) in Kertinge Nor was the gallows of Munkebo. Archaeological research has shown that there was a gallows on the small burial mound found in the middle of the island. The burial mound is not dated.

Gallows Island. The name alone is enough for a little chill down your spine, but not without reason for the small island Galgeholm in Kertinge Nor has actually actually carried a gallows until 1578, when Munkebo ceased to be an independent birch - a kind of court district. An excavation in the early 1990s found traces of the gallows' foundation, and it turned out that it had been built on top of an ancient burial mound, which of course testifies to activity long before poor thieves dangled in the gallows to the horror and warning of others who went with plans of theft or rebellion against the ruling class.

Infoboard on the beach.
