Belmont Motel - Moorhead, MN - Picture Perfect Postcards on Waymarking.com

This 1966 postcard harkens back to the day when the Belmont was operated by Maynard Soreide. This is one of those hotels with living quarters for the owner or manager and their family. The postcard show the motel's old driveway that came off of Highway 75. With the addition of other business and housing to the east of the this location the driveway was changed to a street. The field and small farm (look for the silo on the edge of the tree line) that can be seen in the background of the right side of the picture are no longer there.

After interstates I-94 and I-29 opened highways 10 and 75 became lesser used traffic corridors, mostly local area traffic. The Belmont had fewer and fewer travelers stopping in and this section of town became known more for the trailer park then for dinning and entertainment. A fire in the motel around the turn of the century saw the motel close and eventually reopen as Moorhead Baptist Church. But if you look at the picture of the church sign you can still see that the Belmont once proudly advertised COLOR TV.
