In Rathlousdal Forest north of Rathlousdal Manor, a Deer Park with deer, fallow deer, roe deer and kangaroos was set up in the 1800s. In 1878, a bear cave was also built. The landowner at Rathlousdal Emil von Holstein-Rathlou traveled around the world and became interested in exotic plants and animals. He therefore brought home two bears from Russia which were placed in the bear cave.
After a few years, the bears were donated to a Zoo in Copenhagen, and the bear cave was closed.
