De familie Drost-IJserman was zeer vermogend. Maria IJserman stamde van een geslacht van grootgrondbezitters, terwijl Johannes Drost behalve eigenaar van de steenfabriek IJsselvrucht in Moordrecht ook een politiek leven kende als lid van de Provinciale Staten. Het echtpaar bleef kinderloos, wat misschien wel de achterliggende reden was om het dorp in hun testament ruimhartig te bedelen.
Johannes Drost en Maria IJserman lieten in 1869 bij notaris Snel in Breukelen een testament opmaken, dat de nodige uitwerking in Moordrecht zou hebben.
Nog voor mevrouw Drost-IJserman in 1876 overleed, was het hele dorp al op de hoogte van het testament. Op een perceel aan de Schielandse Zeedijk werd uit een deel van de erfenis een statig en groot huis gebouwd. Dit huis moest onderdak en verzorging bieden aan alle wezen uit Moordrecht, ongeacht welk geloof zij hadden. Met de bouw van dit weeshuis, werd de wens van het echtpaar Drost-IJserman werkelijkheid. Een weesvader en -moeder hebben hier tot eind 1930 voor Moordrechtse weeskinderen gezorgd.
In het testament werd ook vastgesteld dat het beheer van het weeshuis, de goederen en de financiën in handen moest zijn van een op te richten stichting: Drost-IJserman. Hieronder viel ook de verpachting van 120 hectare grond, met daarop vier te verpachten boerderijen.
Tot op heden van dagen bestaat de stichting nog steeds, de weilanden die verpacht worden zijn te herkennen aan het witte hek met daarop het familiewapen van de familie Drost-IJserman.

The Drost-IJserman family was very wealthy. Maria IJserman descended from a family of large landowners, while Johannes Drost, in addition to being the owner of the IJsselvrucht brick factory in Moordrecht, also had a political life as a member of the Provincial Council. The couple remained childless, which may have been the reason behind them generously begging the village in their will.
Johannes Drost and Maria IJserman had a will drawn up by notary Snel in Breukelen in 1869, which would have the necessary effect in Moordrecht.
Even before Mrs. Drost-IJserman died in 1876, the entire village was already aware of the will. A stately and large house was built from part of the inheritance on a plot on the Schielandse Zeedijk. This house was to provide shelter and care for all orphans from Moordrecht, regardless of their faith. With the construction of this orphanage, the Drost-IJserman couple's wish became a reality. An orphaned father and mother took care of Moordrecht orphans here until the end of 1930.
The will also stated that the management of the orphanage, the goods and the finances should be in the hands of a foundation to be established: Drost-IJserman. This also included the lease of 120 hectares of land, with four farms to be leased.
The foundation still exists today, the meadows that are leased can be recognized by the white fence with the family crest of the Drost-IJserman family.
