Nationaal Park Dwingelderveld is een nationaal park van Nederland in de provincie Drenthe, opgericht in 1991. Het park beslaat ongeveer 37 km2 en wordt gezamenlijk beheerd door Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten en particulieren (o.a. Scouting Nederland). Het Dwingelderveld is het grootste natte heidegebied in West-Europa. Het Dwingelderveld is aangewezen als een Natura 2000-gebied.
Dwingelderveld werd door vroege bewoners gebruikt voor religieuze doeleinden en landbouw. Keltische velden en grafheuvels zijn nog duidelijk herkenbaar in het veld. Later werd het gebied gebruikt als transportroute van Duitsland naar Nederland, enkele van de oude paden zijn nog te vinden in het Nationaal Park. Toch is het gebied nooit intensief door mensen gebruikt. In de jaren dertig waren er ontginningsplannen, maar natuurbeschermingsorganisaties kochten een deel van het gebied om het te redden. Andere delen zijn in gebruik geweest voor bosbouw.
Het Dwingelderveld staat internationaal bekend als het belangrijkste natte heidegebied in West-Europa. Doordat er bij ontginningswerkzaamheden voor de landbouw sloten gegraven werden vond er verdroging plaats. Nu dit natuurgebied een nationaal park is, worden sloten en greppels die niet nodig zijn gedicht en wordt veel naaldhout gekapt.
In het Dwingelderveld komen drie slangensoorten voor, te weten de adder, de gladde slang en de ringslang. Dit zijn tevens de enige drie slangensoorten die voorkomen in Nederland. Het gebied is door een bijzondere vegetatie bijzonder rijk aan vlinders: zeldzame soorten als het gentiaanblauwtje en drie soorten zogenaamde veenvlinders, waaronder het veenbesblauwtje komen in het gebied nog voor. Ook leeft er een populatie van ongeveer 400 reeën.
Op deze plek aan de zuid-kant van het Dwingelderveld vind u een informative panel met informative over het gebied. Ook kunt u vanaf hier wandelend en fietsend het gebied verkennen. Het Dwingelderveld is volledig gesloten voor gemotoriseerd verkeer.

Dwingelderveld National Park is a national park of the Netherlands in the province of Drenthe, founded in 1991. The park covers about 37 km2 (14 sq mi) and is mainly managed by the State Forest Service (Staatsbosbeheer) and the most important Dutch private nature management organisation Natuurmonumenten. It is the largest wet heathland of Western-Europe. Dwingelderveld is also designated as a Natura 2000-area.
Dwingelderveld was used by early inhabitants for religious purposes and agriculture. Celtic fields and burial mounds are still clearly recognizable in the field. Later the area was used as a transport route from Germany to the Netherlands, some of the old trails can still be found in the National Park. Nevertheless, the area has never been used intensively by humans. In the 1930s, there were reclamation plans, but nature conservation organisations purchased a part of the area to save it. Other parts have been in use for forestry.
The Dwingelderveld is internationally known as the convenient wet heathland area in Western Europe. Because ditches were dug during reclamation work for agriculture, desiccation took place. Now that this nature reserve is a national park, ditches and ditches that are not needed are closed and a lot of coniferous wood is cut.
Three snake species occur in the Dwingelderveld, namely the adder, the smooth snake and the grass snake. These are also the only three snake species that occur in the Netherlands. Due to a special vegetation, the area is particularly rich in butterflies: rare species such as the gentian blue and three species of moor butterflies, including the cranberry blue, are still found in the area. There is also a population of about 400 deer.
At this location on the south side of the Dwingelderveld you will find an information panel with information about the area. You can also explore the area on foot or by bike from here. The Dwingelderveld is completely closed for motorized traffic.
