Inleiding:

Preface:
LOCK built in 1900 to improve the Colonievaart dug in 1823. The plans were developed by the Chief Engineer of Rijkswaterstaat J. Strootman. The cast and wrought iron movement works have now almost disappeared and were manufactured by the iron foundry G.J. Wispelwey & Co. from Zwolle. The lock is currently in use as a weir. The concrete element placed in the chamber for this purpose is not covered by the protection.
Description:
Sober and functional lock with oval gully. The lock walls and the attachment to the rampart are made of basalt blocks and, like the lock heads, are trimmed with natural stone cover plates. The brick lock heads with bulkhead rebates provide space for the cast and wrought iron movement works and the sheet iron lock gates. There are movement works for the gates on the lock gates. Braking works have been installed on both sides of the lock.
Rating:
Schutsluis, despite the absence of part of the movement works, of architectural-historical, typological, hydraulic and urban planning importance, as well as important for the history of the Rijkswerkinrichting Veenhuizen. Also important as a functional part of the exceptionally valuable Veenhuizen area.
