St. John's Lutheran Church
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregation of St. John's was organized in 1927 as part of the Wembley, Goodfare, Beaverlodge Parish in the Peace River area. Rev. Wildgrube served from 1927-1948 and services were held in Lower Beaverlodge School. A log church and parsonage were built in 1928. In 1953 the congregation completed the construction of a new church building. The congregation joined the newly formed Lutheran Church-Canada synod in 1988.
The current St. John's Lutheran Church has been renovated over the years. It is a one story with vertical siding and a green roof with a gable and atop is a small steeple.
On the front lawn is the old church bell or possibly a school bell from the school that closed in the 1960s. The bell rests on a brick plinth with a plaque in Memory of Charter Members and Pastors. This memorial was placed in 2002 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ascension of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the throne.
The bell indicates American Bell Foundry Co., No 24. It has the original clapper and yoke and for its age is still in good condition.
Based on information the American Bell Foundry Company began in 1895 and in 1924 it was sold to the Bell Furnace & Manufacturing Company. The bell portion of the company phased out the production of bells over about a five year period. Since the St. John's Lutheran Church bell bares the American Bell Foundry Company name would indicate this bell was made prior to 1925.
