The markers are located in New Hope Cemetery off CR 30 just north of the the town centre.

The patriarch was Captain Charles Grant Mackechnie, of the 24th Regiment of Foot. Capt Mackechnie was born in India in 1821,
He served with the 24th Regiment of Foot (2nd Warwickshire) during the Second Anglo-Sikh War of 1849. After settling in Canada he and his family operated a farm in Brighton until his death in 1881.
