In the Lake Helen Cemetery also known as the Cassadaga Cemetery and the Lake Helen-Cassadaga Cemetery is a granite obelisk marking the final resting place of Mary and Richard McDonell.
The ‘McDonell’ family name is in raised letters on the lower plinth. The engraved inscription on the granite is as follows:
Mary McDonell 1845 - 1917
Richard McDonell 1840 - 1928
According to the Find A Grave site Richard McDonell was born in Ontario, Canada on Christmas day 1840 and died in Volusia County October 19th, 1928 at the age of 87. Mary Clephane McDonell was also born in Ontario, Canada on March 17th, 1845 and died in Jackson County, Florida sometime in 1917 at the age of 71 or 72.
