Informatie monumentenregister:

Information monument register:
Bell chair with clock from an anonymous bell-founder, 1300 ?, diam. 81.3 cm.
Additional information:
In Langedijke, the smallest village of the municipality of Ooststellingerwerf, you will find this bell tuck with hipped roof. One of the oldest dated clocks (1300) in Northern Europe hangs in this bell chair.
Bell stools were often built in previously poor areas, such as fishing and peat bogging areas where there was no possibility to build a church tower due to lack of money. Bell stools were built to announce church services or death services in a dignified manner.
Langedijke's bell chair adorns the small cemetery where two former mayors are buried.
