The Maine Lobsterman sculpture originated as a plaster model which was created by Victor Kahill for exhibition at the 1939 New York World's Fair, using H. Elroy Johnson, a Bailey Island resident, as the model for the work. In 1975 it was cast from the original plaster sculpture by Norman Therrien and the Boothbay Foundry. The bronze sculpture was relocated to its present location from the Portland City Hall in 1977.

A 52.5" by 30" by 47" bronze figure of a lobsterman is kneeling on his right knee with his left foot on the ground over a lobster. He is in the process of pegging its claw. He is wearing a shirt with rolled up sleeves and pants tucked into knee length boots. On the ground behind and under the man is a coiled rope, A cap lies on the ground at his left side. The sculpture is placed on 13" by 30" by 48" rectangular base which sits on a 121" by 19.5" round, slightly elevated, concrete base.

Originally one of three placed in Maine (Augusta, Portland and Bailey's Island), this statue was moved from moved from Bailey's Island to Washington D.C. in 1983. It was originally installed at the Wharf Marina then moved to its present location in 2018.
