In het verleden is het meerdere keren voorgekomen dat bouwwerken in de regio Moordrecht stilgelegd moesten worden omdat oeverzwaluwen er hun nesten hadden gegraven in de aanwezige zandhopen. Ook de bouw van de wijk Westergouwe werd enige maanden stilgelegd omdat de beschermde vogeltjes besloten hadden er te gaan broeden.
In deze periode werd ook de GroenBlauwe zone aangelegd. Het gebied kenmerkt zich door veel groen en water en herbergt in totaal 17,3 ha aan watercompensatie. Plas-dras gebied ontstaat doordat sommige delen gedurende een periode van het jaar onder water staan, bijvoorbeeld bij veel regen. Voor natuur en landschap is dit erg belangrijk omdat het gevarieerdheid brengt voor waterdieren, weidevogels en vissen. In november van 2016 werden de eerste jonge bomen en struiken aangeplant.
Een jaar later volgde de oeverzwaluwwand; een betonnen wand voor een zandheuvel, hierin zijn gaten gemaakt welke met zand gevuld zijn. De vogels graven hierin hun nestgangen uit, om er uiteindelijk hun eieren in te gaan leggen en uit te broeden.
De oeverzwaluwwand bleek een geslaagd project want jaarlijks keert de grote groep oeverzwaluwen terug en zijn bijna alle nestholen bezet.

In the past it happened several times that construction works in the Moordrecht region had to be stopped because sand martins had dug their nests in the sand heaps there. The construction of the Westergouwe district was also stopped for several months because the protected birds had decided to breed there.
The Green Blue zone was also constructed during this period. The area is characterized by lots of greenery and water and houses a total of 17.3 ha of water compensation. Wetlands arise because some parts are under water during a period of the year, for example when there is a lot of rain. This is very important for nature and landscape because it brings variety to aquatic animals, meadow birds and fish. The first young trees and shrubs were planted in November 2016.
A year later the sand martin wall followed; a concrete wall for a sand hill, in which holes have been made which are filled with sand. The birds dig out their nest passages in this, in order to eventually lay their eggs in and hatch.
The sand martin wall turned out to be a successful project because every year the large group of sand martins returns and almost all nesting caves are occupied.
