La communauté religieuse des Servantes de Jésus-Marie a été fondée à Masson (aujourd’hui l’un des secteurs de la ville de Gatineau) par le curé Alexis-Louis Mangin et une jeune femme, Éléonore Potvin. Cette dernière en deviendra la première mère supérieure et prendra le nom de sœur Marie-Zita de Jésus. La communauté va s’établir à Hull en 1902 comme congrégation cloîtrée et contemplative. Le premier petit couvent, construit en 1902, est complété par un grand édifice de briques rouges en 1927, inspiré des monastères italiens. À la fin de 2016, la congrégation religieuse a vendu l’édifice à la Commission de la capitale nationale (CCN) pour déménager d’ici 2019 dans un lieu mieux adapté au petit nombre de sœurs encore actives. Les terrains et l’édifice constituent une prolongation du parc Jacques-Cartier et de l’accès aux berges de la rivière des Outaouais.
