Meridian line
[En]
Villers-sur-Mer is the northernmost French commune crossed by the Greenwich meridian. The latter is materialized on the seafront promenade, between rue du Commandant-Franchetti and rue de la Rosière, by a blue mark on the ground and on the parapet.
This mark is nevertheless shifted 32 meters to the west from the meridian. The coordinates are not located at 0 ° 00.000, and yet, they are of course on the Greenwich meridian which is the zero point for longitude calculations ...
GPS uses the "International Reference Meridian" (also known as the IRM Meridian) which has been defined by the "International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service" globally for all marine mapping systems, aerial and therefore also for the GPS!
