This pillar can be found on the 216 metre high Bruxie Hill, four miles south-west of the town of Stonehaven on the east coast of Scotland. The hill is at the north-eastern end of a range of high ground that extends north-eastwards up the coast for 15 miles from the Hill of Garvock, seperating the North Sea coastline from the Howe of the Mearns to the west. The Hill of Garvock is the highest point of the range, with Bruxie Hill the only other point that exceeds 200 metres.

The hill is prominent due to the group of telecommunications masts that adorn the summit and is well seen from the A90 dual-carriageway that passes to the north-west as it heads for Stonehaven.

The pillar sits west of the enclosure housing the masts and is in good condition. Views are restricted due to the ironwork close by and are best to the south-west over the Howe of the Mearns.

STEEPNESS: A manageable gradient from the north-east.

TERRAIN: A track through pastureland.

ACCESSIBILITY: The pillar is around half a mile from the the minor road that passes Ferniebrae Farm. From here a track that was constructed to serve the masts and equipment goes up the north-east flank of the hill.

NAVIGATION: The track makes things straightforward. On the summit, it turns southwards around the fenced enclosure before ending just yards from the pillar, which is situated on the right-hand of a fence.

DANGER: The hill is used for grazing, and livestock are usually roaming about in the vicinity of the track which becomes unfenced further up.
