ALDI (een afkorting van Albrecht Diskont) is een internationaal opererende Duitse keten van discount-supermarkten, opgericht in 1946 in Essen (Noordrijn-Westfalen) door de broers Karl (1920-2014) en Theo Albrecht (1922-2010).

Aldi is bekend om zijn lage prijzen en beperkte assortiment. Het bestaat uit twee zelfstandige bedrijven, Aldi Nord (hoofdvestiging in Essen) en Aldi Süd (hoofdvestiging in Mülheim). Aldi Süd is eigendom van Siepmann Foundation en Aldi Nord is eigendom van Markus Foundation. In Nederland en België opereert Aldi Nord.

De geschiedenis van ALDI begint in 1913 als de vader van de twee huidige oprichters - Karl en Theo Albrecht - een handel met bakwaren start.

Moeder Anna, die uit een ondernemersfamilie stamt, opent in 1914 de eerste supermarkt, waarmee de basis voor een succesvolle supermarktketen wordt gelegd. In 1945 nemen beide zonen het bedrijf over. Drie jaar later beginnen ze met de uitbreiding van filialen en zetten daarbij een consequent concept neer: beperkt assortiment, producten van hoogwaardige kwaliteit en lage prijzen. Dit concept is tot op de dag van vandaag actueel. Het bedrijf groeit snel en in 1954 beschikt ALDI over een filialennetwerk van 77 verkooppunten in Duitsland.

De originele supermarkt wordt de eerste zelfbedieningswinkel. Een jaar later zijn er 100 filialen in Noord-Rijnland-Westfalen.

In 1961 vindt een belangrijke gebeurtenis plaats: de broers Albrecht verdelen het gebied en ALDI Nord en ALDI Süd zijn geboren. Sindsdien werken beide ondernemingen nauw samen.

De naam ALDI komt voort uit Albrecht Discount. Onder deze naam gaat Theo Albrecht verder en in 1962 breidt hij verder uit in Noord-Duitsland en sinds 1973 ook in Nederland. Zijn principe was: aandacht voor de essentie, daar gaat het om. De essentie: dat is de klant. ALDI deed niet aan reclamecampagnes, maar de prijs-kwaliteitverhouding was in de jaren 60 en 70 de beste reclamedrager.

Lievelingsproducten van onze klanten, van de jaren 80 tot nu:
In de jaren 80 waren de best verkochte producten snacks, gebrande koffie, afwasmiddel, thee en margarine. Nu nog zijn er diverse producten in de schappen te vinden die al 45 jaar een succes zijn, zoals de koffie: Markus Koffie, de thee: Westminster, het wasmiddel: UNA en de chocolade: Château. Toen ALDI begin jaren 90 het assortiment uitbreidde met wat luxere artikelen, werd het scala aan klanten wat breder. Hierdoor groeide het marktaandeel van ALDI.

Aldi Beneden Leeuwen ligt aan het dorpsplein. Er is ruime onbetaalde parkeergelegenheid voor de deur. Op vrijdag is er weekmarkt op het dorpsplein. Hierdoor zijn er minder parkeerplaatsen beschikbaar.
Dit filiaal is ruim van opzet en verkoopt ook alcohol en wisselende non food producten.

The name ALDI stems from Albrecht Discount. Theo Albrecht continues under this name and in 1962 he expands further in Northern Germany and since 1973 also in the Netherlands. His principle was: attention to the essence, that's what it's all about. The essence: that is the customer. ALDI did not run advertising campaigns, but the price-quality ratio was the best advertising medium in the 60s and 70s.

In the 1980s, the best-selling products were snacks, roast coffee, dish soap, tea and margarine. When ALDI expanded the range with more luxurious items in the early 1990s, the range of customers became somewhat broader. As a result, ALDI's market share grew.

Aldi Beneden Leeuwen is located on the village square. There is ample unpaid parking in front of the door. On Friday there is a weekly market on the village square. As a result, fewer parking spaces are available.
This branch is spacious and also sells alcohol and various non-food products.
