Ben Gurion Airport is the only international airport in Israel. It is the largest and busiest airport in the country with 10.9 million passengers annually. It is located 20 km southeast of Tel Aviv.
It opened in 1936 and was originally called Lod Airport, but was renamed Ben Gurion Airport in 1973, named after David Ben Gurion, Israel's first prime minister.
