Le collège Marianopolis se situe à Westmount dans un bâtiment patrimonial, construit en 1926 par les sœurs de la Congrégation de Notre-Dame, qui y avaient établi leur maison-mère.
Tout au long du 19e siècle, les sœurs de la Congrégation travaillent afin de développer et d’étoffer le programme d’études destiné à leurs étudiantes. Au début du 20e siècle, elles vont s’engager activement, sous la conduite de sœur Sainte-Anne-Marie, dans la lutte pour l’accès des femmes aux études supérieures et aux cours universitaires, jusque-là fermés aux jeunes filles. Leur premières démarches en ce sens se soldent par un échec, mais, en 1908, le premier collège classique féminin au Québec, l’École d’enseignement supérieur, ouvre ses portes dans la Maison mère que l’on venait deconstruire au 3040 Sherbrooke Ouest. Le nouvel établissement offre des programmes, des examens et des diplômes en provenance de l’Université Laval. Il permet aux filles d’obtenir un baccalauréat à la suite de quatre ans de cours classique. Cette institution sera la seule à offrir ce cours pour étudiantes pendant près de 25 ans.
Établissement bilingue, l’école d’enseignement supérieur grandit si rapidement qu’elle doit quitter la maison mère pour s’installer, en 1926, dans un nouvel edifice situé sur l’avenue Westmount où elle prend le nom de Collège Marguerite Bourgeoys. La section anglaise se sépare pour former le Marianopolis College tandis que la section Commercial reste à la maison mère sous le nom de Notre-Dame Secretariat School.

Throughout the 19th century, the sisters of the Congregation worked to develop and enrich the curriculum for their students.
