En 1903, un groupe de Franciscains arrive de France. Ils s'installent à la maison du Commissariat jusqu'à la fin de la construction du couvent Saint-Antoine la même année. En 1906, l'érection de la chapelle attenante au couvent débute. En 1911, la nouvelle paroisse Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses est fondée et confiée aux Franciscains. La même année, les Pères ouvrent un Collège séraphique dans une partie du couvent afin de former de nouveaux candidats à la vie franciscaine, des prêtres séculiers ou des professionnels. Ce nouveau Collège séraphique à Trois-Rivières remplace celui de Montréal. En 1914, un nouveau bâtiment est prêt juste à côté pour abriter le Collège séraphique, aussi appelé le Séminaire Saint-Antoine. En 1958, un nouveau Collège séraphique est inauguré sur le boulevard des Forges qui possède sa propre chapelle.
La laïcisation de l'éducation entraîne la fermeture du Collège séraphique ainsi que la transformation des lieux et le Centre d'études universitaires de Trois-Rivières est créé. En 1969, le Centre est intégré à l'Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières tout comme l'École normale d'État Maurice-L.-Duplessis.

In 1903, a group of Franciscans arrived from France. They settled in the Commissariat's house until the end of the construction of the Saint-Antoine Convent the same year. The secularization of education led to the closure of the Seraphic College as well as the transformation of the premises and the Center d'études universitaire de Trois-Rivières was created. In 1969, the Center was integrated into the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, as was the Maurice-L.-Duplessis State Normal School.
