Rijkswerkkamp Twilhaar werd in eerste instantie opgezet als een werkverruimingskamp maar werd in 1942 een joods werkkamp. De Duitse bezetter gijzelde in dit Nijverdalse kamp een kleine honderd joodse mannen, voornamelijk afkomstig uit Groningen.
Op 2 oktober van dat jaar werden de mannen via Westerbork afgevoerd naar de vernietigingskampen in het oosten van Europa, waar zij bijna allen zijn vermoord.
Het bos, dat later informeel het 'Jodenbos' werd genoemd, is pas na de oorlog door gewone werknemers aangelegd. Kamp Twilhaar werd in 1949 afgebroken.
In 2003 word een herdenkingsmonument opgericht op de plaats waar van 1940 - 1947 het werkkamp lag. In 2012 werd een replica van de poort van het Rijkswerkkamp opgesteld en zijn de contouren van het kamp opnieuw zichtbaar gemaakt. Op de plaatsen waar barakken stonden is dit in het terrein door middel van zandlichamen aangegeven.

Labor camp Twilhaar was initially set up as a work-relocation camp, but became a Jewish labor camp in 1942. The German occupier took almost a hundred Jewish men hostage in this Nijverdal camp, mainly from Groningen.
On October 2 of that year, the men were transported via Westerbork to the extermination camps in eastern Europe, where almost all of them were murdered.
The forest, which was later informally called the 'Jodenbos', was not created by ordinary workers until after the war. Camp Twilhaar was demolished in 1949.
In 2003 a memorial is erected on the site of the labor camp from 1940 - 1947. In 2012 a replica of the gate of the Rijkswerkkamp was erected and the contours of the camp were made visible again. In the places where barracks stood, this is indicated in the terrain by means of sand bodies.
