EN: The 40 hectare park between the Hohenzollern Bridge and the Zoobridge was created for the "Deutsche Werkbund-Exhibition Cöln 1914" and used as a public park between the world wars. After the Second World War, the dance fountain was built in front of the State House.
The Federal Garden Show was held in the Rheinpark in 1957 and 1971, and some renovation work was carried out for this purpose - various fountains and small ponds were created, the park was also equipped with sculptures by various artists. A cable car connected the garden show with the zoo and flora in the Cologne district of Riehl. Several options for catering were available, the park café still exists today.
For the Federal Garden Show in 1971, a central playground and the thermal baths were built - today the Claudiustherme is located there - and the approximately 6000 square meters large youth park in the north of the park was expanded: today there are streetball and basketball fields, a climbing wall and lanes for BMX and skateboards. A mini golf course and a mini car facility can also be used.
