Translated from the above noted text:
The creation of the Catholic diocese of Rimouski in 1867 had consequences for the establishment founded by Fathers Tanguay and Potvin. It is customary for the seat of a diocese to have a diocesan seminary in order to train priests. The first bishop of Rimouski, Mgr Jean Langevin, quickly announced that the College would quickly be transformed into a seminary, attached to Laval University. The state funding being insufficient, the bishop organized special collections, inviting each family to contribute 15 cents to the new educational work. The Séminaire Saint-Germain-de-Rimouski will be founded in 1870 and a new building to house it will be built as of the following year.
During its first five decades of existence, the Seminary focused on two types of training: the classical course leading to university studies and the Major Seminary, intended for the training of the clergy. It was from 1920 that the seminary developed its offer of more specialized professional programs.
