"The 'Pallati i Kongreseve' (Albanian for Palace of Congresses) is the venue for various conferences, festivals, exhibitions, ceremonies, fairs and concerts in Tirana, the capital of Albania. The postmodern-style event building stands east of the central Boulevard Dëshmorët e Kombit, in close proximity to the university and the Qemal-Stafa stadium.
History
The Congress Palace was built between 1982 and 1986 during the communist dictatorship under Enver Hoxha, to a design by the Albanian architect Klement Kolaneci. The building served mainly as a local congress and conference center for the Party of Labor of Albania until the democratic change in 1990/91. Since then, the Pallati i Kongreseve has been used for a variety of events such as festivals, exhibitions and concerts.
In 2012, the building was transferred from government ownership to the ownership of the City of Tirana.
Building data
The building has a rectangular ground plan with a dome in the center. At the same time the corners are cut off. The building reaches a height of 18 to 23 meters, a width of about 70 meters and a length of 95 meters. Thus, the floor area is about 6650 square meters.
The main hall has an audience capacity of about 2100 people. In addition, there are three smaller halls for 150, 280 and 300 people.
