De Schelphoek bestaat tegenwoordig uit een krekengebied, dat ontstaan is uit de dijkdoorbraak tijdens de watersnood van 1953. De dijkdoorbraak is nooit hersteld en om de ontstane waterpartij is een ringdijk aangelegd, waarlangs veel olijfwilgen groeien. Dit waterbekken is ook gebruikt als haven voor de aanleg van de Oosterscheldekering.

The Schelphoek nowadays consists of a creek area, which arose from the breach of the dyke during the flood of 1953. The breach of the dyke was never repaired and a ring dyke was constructed around the resulting water feature, along which many olive willows grow. This water basin was also used as a harbor for the construction of the Oosterscheldekering
