François Gaston de Lévis est né le 20 août 1719 au château d'Ajac, près de Limoux en France. Il est celui qui a pris les commandes de l'armée lors de la mort de Montcalm et de la prise de Québec, le 13 septembre 1759. Il s'est également rendu célèbre à la suite de sa victoire lors de la bataille de Sainte-Foy, le 28 avril de l'année suivante.
Une capsule temporelle a été enfouie sous le socle. Clin d'œil à cette vieille tradition autrefois associée à l'érection d'un monument commémoratif, cette boîte scellée renferme divers objets, documents et contributions symboliques offerts en témoignage aux générations futures.

He was the one who took command of the army during the death of Montcalm and the capture of Quebec on September 13, 1759.
