This place is what makes following the American Guide Series and Waymarking all so worthwhile. I would never have come across this gristmill without it being targeted. The pond directly across from the mill is very serene.

2. Left from Medfield on State 27 at 0.8 m. is an Old Gristmill built about 1705. At 1.4 m. (L) is a large formal garden enclosed by stone posts and a clipped hedge. Spilling over into dooryard, farmyard, and onto the long low farmhouse itself is an amazing Collection of Bronze and Iron Eagles from all over the world.

The grist mill remains standing as one of a complex of buildings on the Clark Kingsbury homestead, including house, carriage house, barn and corn crib as well as others. No other colonial building complex remains this complete in Medfield. The mill building itself is strong evidence of the domestic construction techniques and style used in early industrial architecture.
This is the only water powered agricultural mill (saw/grist/fulling) known to be standing "in situ" in this region. The water power technology, building shape and size, and location all appear to be typical of similar mills now destroyed. An extraordinary survival which is dangerously neglected at present, and will soon need extensive maintenance work (shingles, windows) to be preserved. The "malt house" mentioned in records may be part of the same building.
