The village of St Cyrus is situated in the extreme southern part of Aberdeenshire, formerly Kincardineshire on the North Sea coast of Scotland. It is perched on the clifftop above St Cyrus Beach and Nature Reserve, and is noted for the tall tower and steeple of the church which can be seen from miles away.
The present church was built in 1787 on the site of the old parish church, and mostly rebuilt in 1853 by David Mitchell, including the tower and spire. The building is rectangular, with the tower on the northern end. The square four-stage tower features octagonal crenellated corner buttresses and a clock face on the 3rd stage. On the highest stage are pairs of lancet belfry openings above a crenellated parapet. The tall octagonal stone spire rises above, topped by a metal weather vane.
The church is situated on the eastern end of the village within a hundred yards or so of the cliff edge. The church, formerly the parish church, is now part of the Mearns Coastal Parish.
