This is one of a series of pictures which hang on the walls of The Royal Chapel which depict the arms of the successive Lords of Man, and the successive Lieutenant Governors from the Isle of Man Purchase Act 1765.

On this picture below the representation of the arms is the following description:
'ARMS OF PIERS DE GAVESTON
1311'The dates shown being before the purchase of the Island by the British Crown indicate that Piers de Gaveston was Lord of Man in 1311.
The arms are similar to those of Antony Bek (Bishop of Durham (c.1245 to 3 March 1311) and suggests strongly that the two men were family relatives. (

On Wikipedia is noted that Piers Gaveston, 1st Earl of Cornwall (c.1284 - 13 June 1312) was an English nobleman of Gascon origin, and the favourite of Edward 11. Edward II was King of England from 1307 until he was deposed in January 1327.
