While constructing the new building for the department of chemistry, University of Oslo they discovered a field of Pictographs (Helleristninger in Norwegian). The building was build 'around' some of the pictographs. They now reside in the main entrance hall.

The pictographs is about 3000 years old, made in the Bronze Age. The field inside the building consist mainly of footprints and depressions. On the outside fields, just south of the building (hard to find) there are a few ships and some suns as well as more footprints and depressions.

This place is believed to be sacred, and used in rituals to promote health and ferility among people and animals.

The people that made theese printings were farmers. Living nearby as the pictographs often were made close to their fields. The ships points to the connection to the sea and trade.

Type of Pictograph: Petroglyph
