A man of about thirty years of age jumped at noon from the New Bridge of Ourense towards the river Miño, in the presence of numerous people who at that time were walking through a very crowded area, both by pedestrians and drivers. The Local Police of Ourense received at 1:45 p.m. a notice from a woman explaining that she was looking for her 30-year-old son, because she had escaped from CHUO, expressed her intention to commit suicide. A search device was established and a few minutes later they received a notice alerting them to the presence of the young man on one of the railings of Puente Nuevo, on the right sidewalk in the direction of the city center. Traffic was cut off and agents of the national and local police tried to persuade him, trying not to get too close, as instructed by the young man himself, who finally managed to get off the railing, rushing into the Miño river. He floated out and swam with difficulty to shore, where local and national police officers managed to lift him out of the water.
Unaware of the extent of the injuries and given the steepness of the terrain, while he was being treated by the agents, the presence of the capital's firefighters was requested to safely rescue him from the shore, just as an ambulance was notified that he transferred it to the conscious CHUO.
