The Jewish monument (Joods monument) in Utrecht has been realized in 2015 after the realisation that Utrecht was the only large town in the Netherlands without such a monument. The monument consists of a seven meters long wall with 1239 names of Jewish people and their date of death. In the heart of the monument is the text "Zie, ik heb je in mijn handpalmen gegrift" (See, I've engraved you on my palms) from the Book of Isaiah. In front of the wall is a bronze shofar on a pedestal.
The monument is located next to the railway museum, which is located in the former Maliebaan station. The Maliebaan station was closed in 1939 because of the merger between the existing railway companies. A few years later the station was taken into operation again for the deportation of Jewish residents. Hence the choice for this specific location.
