Parish chest in St George's church, Lower Brailes. Probably made locally in around 1650. It has good ornamental iron strapwork. It is possible it was originally for domestic use, and came to the church later. On the lid is carved the later inscription b.c. 1758 (B C standing for Brailes Church).
It is a six-board chest, consisting of five flat boards that make up the bottom, sides, and ends, and another flat board forms the lid. The two end boards are extended to raise the chest off the ground on a pair of slab legs. It has metal strapping at the corners to reinforce the fairly simple and weak joinery.
