"Destroyed during the earthquake of 1843, rebuilt in 1856 and damaged again in the cyclone of 1928, the restoration of the Church of St. Philip and St. James was entrusted to the architect Ali Tur.

The building, without transept, presents a single vessel. The remarkable elements are the bell tower, the stained glass windows and the beautiful altar in masonry.

Named "colonial architect" by the French government, Ali Tur was commissioned by Governor Tellier, then governor of Guadeloupe, to rebuild the buildings representing the state in Guadeloupe, after the cyclone of 1928.

In charge of history, it is before the esplanade of the church Saint-Philippe and Saint-Jacques that the slaves were sold to work on the fields of sugar cane. "
