"The Neudorf district of Duisburg was founded in 1770. Locals worshiped in one of the churches in the city center for over a century. In 1895 the Luther Church was built as a place of Protestant cult for the two districts of Duissern and Neudorf. Due to its location in Duissern and the strong growth of the population in Neudorf, however, it could not fulfill this function properly. Das oberste Stockwerk des Turms ist klassisch gestaltet und entspricht dem Renaissance-Charakter des Gebäudes. Die Paar Bogenfenster sind von Halbsäulen eingerahmt, die auf einem Sockel ruhen und das schwere Gebälk tragen, das oben endet. Das Dach des Turms selbst ist in Form einer barocken Stufenhaube mit einer offenen achtseitigen Laterne gestaltet.

Im Oktober 2011 ergab eine statische Studie, dass die nach dem Krieg installierte Zwischendecke und die Dachkonstruktion die aktuellen Sicherheitsanforderungen nicht mehr erfüllten. Das Konsistorium entschied daher, dass ab dem 15. Oktober 2011 alle Gottesdienste und Veranstaltungen nicht mehr in der Kirche Christi stattfinden, sondern nur noch im Pfarrsaal oder im Konfirmationssaal. Die Restaurierung der Kirche und der Bau eines neuen Gemeindezentrums neben der Kirche waren geplant.
