The Nike Ajax anti-aircraft missile was in use from the early 1950s until the 1970s. The Nike Ajax was in use in 12 countries and 27 US states. There were twenty Nike Ajax sites in Washington State protecting Puget Sound, Hanford Nuclear Site and Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane from attacking bombers. Sites were operated by US Army and National Guard soldiers.
