These bells were originally cast in Braunfels, Germany in 1834 and were a gift by Prince Solms-Braunfels, who founded this City of New Braunfels. The two bells, seen on static mounts in this minimalist bell tower, were previously hung in and rung from the bell tower of the first First Protestant Church built on this property. When the present second First Protestant Church building replaced the first church, new bells were put in the newer tower and these original ones were preserved.
There is a metal plaque mounted to the corner of the bell tower that gives a summary of the history of these bells. The plaque reads as follows:
"Dedicated to the Glory of God
and in memory & honor of
Melba Roth
Carl & Elisabeth Birdsong
Lowell & Virginia Hansard
Helmuth Schlameus
Midla Sahm Fischer family
Calvin & Lorains Kraft
Perkins McClendon
These bells, a gift from Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, were poured in Braunfels, Germany in 1834. They were placed in the steeple of the first church in New Braunfels in 1846 on this site.
