The plaque says, "Garden Grove's bicentennial mall is named for the late Congressional Medal of Honor recipient commander Donald A. Gary. A World War II hero, commander Gary was a longtime resident of Garden Grove and an original member of the Garden Grove Bicentennial Commission.
Featured in the Bicentennial Mall are natural areas with plantings, meandering walkways, pedestrian lighting, pedestrian bridges, recirculating pond and the bicentennial structure. Constructed of the bicentennial mall was a cooperative project between the Garden Grove agency for community development and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration.
