LT Kara Hultgreen USN
(10/05/65 - 10/25/94)
Naval Aviation Pioneer
This F-14D Tomcat is dedicated in memory of LT Kara Hultgreen United States Navy. On 25 October, 1994 the Black Lions of Fighter Squadron 213 were conducting training operations in preparation for deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). The Tomcat she piloted that day experienced engine failure on final approach and crashed in the Pacific. Her crewman survived. LT Hultgreen's determination and perseverance helped her become the Navy's first woman Carrier based combat fighter pilot. She is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. A true example of courage, bravery and loyalty. Her sacrifice shall never be forgotten.
