This stone monument is on the east side of Highway 9 about a mile south of Portis. Erected in 1938, the monument is near the location of Walraonds Stockade, where settlers took refuge in the last Indian fight in the county; this occurred in 1870. There is a pull-out at the marker with room for a few cars to park.
