from wikipedia:
The Triglav (pron. "Trieglau" (g of goal) ['t?i?glau?]?) Is the highest mountain in both the Julian Alps and Slovenia at 2864 m. The mountain is located on the border between the regions of Gorenjska and Primorska (or Goriška) between the municipalities of Mojstrana, Bohinj and Trenta. Triglav means the three-headed, a reference to the shape of the mountain. The three summits represent the past, the present and the future; the mountain is considered a national symbol of the Slovenes. The Triglav is located in the northwest of Slovenia, almost in the heart of the 838 km2 large Triglav National Park
The mountain was first conquered by four Slovenes from Bohinj on August 26, 1778: Luka Korošec, Matevž Kos, Štefan Rožic and Lovrenc Willomitzer. While today experienced hikers by the thousands reach the summit quite easily, in the unknown and virtually uninhabited area without trails it was a risky journey. Today, as in many places in the Julian Alps, there is a devil in the sometimes abrupt alternation between the lovely landscape and difficult passages.
Over the years, a tradition has emerged that says that every Slovenian should climb the national mountain at least once. On public holidays one can symbolically send a letter from the Triglav. There is then a postal worker at the top who puts stamps on the letters and postcards brought by hikers.
