The Miño-Sil Hydrographic Confederation (CHMS) and the Xinzo Council signed a collaboration protocol - an act prior to the agreement - to improve the hydraulic infrastructures of the Bon Xesús de Trandeiras monastery, in the San Pedro de A Pena parish of Limiana. The planned investment is around 350,000 euros, although a study must first be carried out on the specific needs and the actions to be carried out.
In any case, the intervention project plans to act on the monastery's factories and on the infrastructures related to the water supply: fountains, catchments, pipes and tanks. The Franciscan monastery of Trandeiras is located five kilometers from the capital of Lima and its oldest parts date from 1523. The infrastructures of the monastery's supply are still visible on the outside although due to lack of maintenance, neglect and the passage of time they have deteriorated to the point of being in danger of ruin and disappearance, according to the basin organization.
The president of the Hydrographic Office, José Antonio Quiroga, pointed out that this project is included within the promotion of sustainable practices in the A Limia region. The CHMS, he said, is concerned about "the deterioration of the riverbed," while considering "unquestionable" "the high value of agriculture and livestock in the area." Quiroga added that this project is part of the requests of the mayor, Elvira Lama (PSOE), who considers urgent "the sanitation and purification of small nuclei, the continuation of the pedestrian path in the urban area of ??the town that was pending" .
