When the beautiful main building for the university was completed in 1882, a square was also made where there was to be a fountain. Unfortunately, there was not enough money to make the fountain and it was therefore not completed until 6 years later.
The fountain you can see is the 3rd model. The first 2 fountain models which were even nicer, but unfortunately too expensive. It therefore ended with this model which the architect Helgo Zettervall, who had designed the university, called a pygmy fountain. The fountain is decorated with 4 frogs, 4 snails and 4 lion heads. The top is a boy blowing in a seashell.
The fountain consists of a top, a bowl, a pillar and another bowl. The fountain stands in a small lake surrounded by flower beds.
