Heritage Park in downtown Junction City, KS contains a large gray granite monument marking the location of a time capsule. The time capsule is near the public restroom building near North Jefferson Street.

The official address of Heritage Park is 101-199 6th Street (at N Washington Street). The park is bounded by 6th Street to the North, 5th Street to the South, N. Washington Street to the East and N. Jefferson Street to the West. As the name might imply, Heritage Park has many war memorials and dedicated memorials to individuals and to groups. Therefore, to discover a time capsule about on the western part of the park was a delightful surprise. And, the marker for the time capsule is a big gray granite smooth faced stone surrounded with metal pipe railing. To make it even easier to find, it is located on the southeast corner of the public restroom building.
The large gray granite stone is rough cur on three sides, with the face cut smooth and polished.
The inscription carved into the smooth stone face has the bicentennial logo above an inscribed rectangular frame around the text. The text reads as follows:
"Junction City
Geary county, Kansas
Bicentennial Time Capsule
July 20, 1976
To Be Opened in the Year 2076"
This time capsule was buried 200 years after the USA gained independence from British rule in 1776. In 2076 the USA will be celebrating its 300th anniversary since its founding in 1776.
It will also be 100 years since it was buried here under this marker stone.
