Inscription on bronze plaque mounted on the church: Christ Church, founded in 1742, was entered onto the National Register of Historic Places in July 28, 1989. In 1776, the third public reading of the Declaration of Independence was made from the foot of the church tower. Funding for the Exterior Restoration of the parish building, beginning 2002, was made possible in part by the Garden State Preservation Trust administered by the New Jersey Historic Trust, State of New Jersey
